Census: Only 3% of Atlantans use public transit

Atlanta Business Chronicle

Few metro Atlanta workers rely on public transit for their daily commutes, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau

Only 3.36 percent of Big Peach workers hop aboard a MARTA train or bus or use their local public bus service. Atlanta ranks 49th among 942 metros and micros in the report.

Compare that with No. 1 New York, where 30.5 percent of workers travel to their workplaces by bus, subway or train.

San Francisco-Oakland is a distant second at 14.6 percent. Usage of public transit exceeds 10 percent in just five other markets — Washington, Boston, Chicago and two micropolitan areas in Florida: Arcadia and Clewiston.
